Andromeda...She may even be seen faintly with the naked eye and yet she is so far away. Nevertheless, some billions of years in the future our own Milky Way Galaxy and Andromeda are going to collide in a spectacular cosmic cataclysm...What strikes me as so utterly fantastic is that, because the galaxies are so very far away and the light from them takes millions or billions of years to reach us on Earth, we are seeing an image of history older than, perhaps, even the age of our own planet...
