Inquisition is dedicated to the brave memory of Michael Servetus, brilliant scholar and heterodox believer, who perished so painfully in the searing flames, being burned alive as a heretic, on the dismally dreary and rainy day of October 27, 1553, near Geneva, under the watch of that all-time religiously brutal control-freak, John Calvin. Furthermore, this dedication reaches out to the memory of all those innocent victims who were horribly and mercilessly tortured and executed during the nightmare of The Holy Inquisition, as witches, in it's deranged effort to rid the world of anyone or anything that was deemed an affront to The Church (Protestant or Catholic).
As you will easily hear, when you listen to this piece, I have prepared my own arrangement of the rather morbid children's ditty "Three Blind Mice", in order to add a more realistic presence of the time to my composition, since the ditty comes from the reign of Queen "Bloody" Mary in the mid-16th century. (art work from an original woodcut around the 15th or 16th centuries depicting the brutally savage practice of burning heretics and so-called "witches" at the stake...)
