Libertat concerns the sense of satisfaction, restfulness and inner peacefulness that comes after a long and painful struggle of one kind or another has been overcome. I composed Libertat for two of my dearest friends. As a piece for Songs for the 21st Century, Libertat may well express the sense that everything is not as bleak as it looks and that humanity may well take the challenges of our existence in hand and somehow win the day for us all and future generations to come. As for the music itself, I am very impressed with the melodic sweetness of the latter part of the piece. This is personally reminiscent of Beethoven's 2nd movement of his famous Pathetique Sonata.
